Forward J/ψ production at high energy: Centrality dependence and mean transverse momentum

2016

Forward rapidity $J/\psi$ meson production in proton-nucleus collisions can be an important constraint of descriptions of the small-$x$ nuclear wavefunction. In an earlier work we studied this process using a dipole cross section satisfying the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation, fit to HERA inclusive data and consistently extrapolated to the nuclear case using a standard Woods-Saxon distribution. In this paper we present further calculations of these cross sections, studying the mean transverse momentum of the meson and the dependence on collision centrality. We also extend the calculation to backward rapidities using nuclear parton distribution functions. We show that the parametrization is over…

Forward J/ψ production in U+U collisions at √sNN = 193 GeV

2016

The invariant yields, dN/dy, for J/ψ production at forward rapidity (1.2 < |y| < 2.2) in U + U collisions at √sNN = 193 GeV have been measured as a function of collision centrality. The invariant yields and nuclearmodification factor RAA are presented and compared with those from Au + Au collisions in the same rapidity range. Additionally, the direct ratio of the invariant yields from U + U and Au + Au collisions within the same centrality class is presented, and used to investigate the role of cc¯ coalescence. Two different parametrizations of the deformed Woods-Saxon distribution were used in Glauber calculations to determine the values of the number of nucleon-nucleon collisions in each …

Forward $J/\psi$ and very backward jet inclusive production at the LHC

2018

In the spirit of Mueller-Navelet dijet production, we propose and study the inclusive production of a forward $J/\psi$ and a very backward jet at the LHC as an observable to reveal high-energy resummation effects \`a la BFKL. We obtain several predictions, which are based on the various mechanisms discussed in the literature to describe the production of the $J/\psi$, namely, NRQCD singlet and octet contributions, and the color evaporation model.

J/ψ Elliptic Flow in Pb-Pb Collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

2017

We report a precise measurement of the J / ψ elliptic flow in Pb-Pb collisions at √ s N N = 5.02     TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The J / ψ mesons are reconstructed at midrapidity ( | y | < 0.9 ) in the dielectron decay channel and at forward rapidity ( 2.5 < y < 4.0 ) in the dimuon channel, both down to zero transverse momentum. At forward rapidity, the elliptic flow v 2 of the J / ψ is studied as a function of the transverse momentum and centrality. A positive v 2 is observed in the transverse momentum range 2 < p T < 8     GeV / c in the three centrality classes studied and confirms with higher statistics our earlier results at √ s N N = 2.76     TeV in semicentral collisions.…

Production of a forward J/ψ and a backward jet at LHC

2016

We study the production at the LHC of a forward J/ψ meson and a backward jet with a large rapidity separation using the BFKL formalism. We give predictions for both the Non Relativistic QCD (NRQCD) approach to charmonium production and the Color Evaporation Model. In NRQCD, we find that the 3S18 part of the onium wavefunction is completely dominating the process, which makes the presented study a good probe for this color octet contribution. peerReviewed

Measurement of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for exclusive B decays to charmonium

2005

We report measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries of exclusive decays of neutral and charged B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium state and a light strange meson. The charmonium mesons considered are J/Psi, Psi(2S) and Chi_c1, and the light meson is either K or K*. We use a sample of about 124 million BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.

Gluon imaging using azimuthal correlations in diffractive scattering at the Electron-Ion Collider

2021

We study coherent diffractive photon and vector meson production in electron-proton and electron-nucleus collisions within the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory. We show that electron-photon and electron-vector meson azimuthal angle correlations are sensitive to non-trivial spatial correlations in the gluon distribution of the target, and perform explicit calculations using spatially dependent McLerran-Venugopalan initial color charge configurations coupled to the numerical solution of small $x$ JIMWLK evolution equations. We compute the cross-section differentially in $Q^2$ and $|t|$ and find sizeable anisotropies in the electron-photon and electron-$\mathrm{J}/$ azimuthal co…

Inclusive J/ψ production in Xe–Xe collisions at √sNN = 5.44 TeV

2018

Inclusive J/ψ production is studied in Xe–Xe interactions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of √sNN = 5.44 TeV, using the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. The J/ψ meson is reconstructed via its decay into a muon pair, in the centre-of-mass rapidity interval 2.5 < y < 4 and down to zero transverse momentum. In this Letter, the nuclear modification factors RAA for inclusive J/ψ, measured in the centrality range 0–90% as well as in the centrality intervals 0–20% and 20–90% are presented. The RAA values are compared to previously published results for Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV and to the calculation of a transport model. A good agreement is found between Xe–Xe and Pb–Pb resul…

Coherent ψ(2S) photo-production in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV

2015

We have performed the first measurement of the coherent ψ(2S) photo-production cross section in ultraperipheral Pb–Pb collisions at the LHC. This charmonium excited state is reconstructed via the ψ(2S) → l +l − and ψ(2S) → J/ψπ+π− decays, where the J/ψ decays into two leptons. The analysis is based on an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 22 μb−1. The cross section for coherent ψ(2S) production in the rapidity interval −0.9 < y < 0.9 is dσcoh ψ(2S)/dy = 0.83±0.19 stat+syst mb. The ψ(2S) to J/ψ coherent cross section ratio is 0.34+0.08 −0.07(stat + syst). The obtained results are compared to predictions from theoretical models. peerReviewed
